Staying Safe and Informed at Old Ironworks Gym: Everything You Need to Know

Good afternoon! I’m Adrian from Old Ironworks Gym. I’ve received several questions recently and seen some comments online regarding how gyms are operating now. I want to clear up any confusion by focusing specifically on Old Ironworks Gym and the steps we’re taking to ensure your safety and a smooth experience. Here’s everything you need to know.

Using the Gym App: Essential for Entry

To train at Old Ironworks Gym, you must use our app. This isn’t optional. The app is essential for several reasons:

  1. Booking Your Spot: Before arriving, you must tap the red box in the app to inform us that you’re coming. This is crucial because it allows us to monitor the number of people in the gym at any given time.
  2. Capacity Limits: Our facility is 5,500 square feet, which means we can accommodate 55 people. However, to prioritise safety, I’ve reduced the maximum capacity to 45 people. While it’s rare to reach this limit, the app helps us stay in control of the numbers. For example, during our first Monday back, we had 30 people in at peak times, which was easily manageable.
  3. Account Management: The app isn’t just for booking. You can also update your membership, change personal details, and even swap your photo if you’ve got a new favourite snap.

Additionally, you’ll need the app to scan your barcode at our new scanner. If you turn up without a membership, you’ll be asked to leave – we’re strict about ensuring that only members or those with a day pass are using our facilities.

Day Passes Available

For those who want to try us out, we do offer day passes. You can purchase one for £8 via our website. This process also goes through our app, allowing us to gather your details. We collect this information as part of our internal track and trace system – ensuring we know who has been in the gym.

Showers and Changing Rooms

Some of you have asked why our showers are limited. Here’s the deal:

  • You can use the showers, but only if it’s absolutely necessary. The government’s guidance discourages showering unless essential to minimise close contact in enclosed spaces.
  • Our changing room is small, and having multiple people in a hot, humid environment isn’t ideal. If you genuinely need to shower, please inform the staff so we can clean the area immediately after use.

Ventilation: Fresh Air, No Worries

Concerned about ventilation? Rest assured, Old Ironworks Gym is not stuffy or stagnant. We don’t use air conditioning – instead, we rely on good old-fashioned windows, which we keep open to maintain excellent airflow. The constant breeze keeps the air fresh, so any concerns about “germs” floating around are quickly blown away. If you’re curious, just pop by and see our wide-open windows for yourself.

Current Opening Hours

Our opening hours are currently:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5:45am – 10pm
  • Friday: 5:45am – 9:00pm
  • Saturday: 7am – 5pm
  • Sunday: 8am – 4pm

We’ve noticed that early mornings aren’t as busy as expected, so if you prefer training early, let us know. If attendance remains low, we may adjust the weekday start time to 6:30 AM. For now, the schedule stays as it is, and we’ll review in a month or so.
